TradesPlace
About us

We build the website you should have been sold in the first place.

Local trades and service businesses were being asked for thousands up front for a website they would never own, or a monthly fee for leads shared with three competitors. We built TradesPlace to be the opposite of that, and to prove it before anyone pays us a penny.

What we believe

The things we will not budge on

  1. 01

Show the work first, then ask.

We rebuild your homepage before you have paid us anything. If it is not better than what you have got, tell us and that is the end of it. No deposit, no obligation, nothing owed.

  2. 02

You own it. All of it.

The domain, the site, the words and the reviews are yours from day one. Some companies in this market keep your reviews when you leave. We think that tells you exactly what they think of you.

  3. 03

    One price, no tiers.

£49 a month, and that is the whole menu. There is no cheaper plan to be upsold out of and no dearer one to be steered towards, so nobody here has a reason to sell you anything.

  4. 04

When we say it is up, we mean it.

A 99.5% uptime target written into the service agreement, automated checks every minute, a status page anyone can look at, and credit owed to you if we fall short.

  5. 05

You should not have to chase us for small things.

Changing your opening hours or swapping a photo should take a minute in your own dashboard, not an email and a wait. The less you need to contact us, the better we have done our job.

To be clear

What we do not do

  • Online shops or custom web applications. We do one thing and we would rather do it properly.
  • Promise you a position on Google. Nobody can honestly promise that.
  • Minimum terms or exit fees. If you want to leave, you leave, and it all goes with you.
  • Surprise invoices. Anything outside the plan is quoted before we start, never after.

That is the whole pitch.

Send us your current website and we will rebuild the homepage, free, so you can judge every word of this for yourself.

FAQ

Some questions you might have

If yours is not here, just ask. We would rather answer it now than leave you wondering.

Ask us a question

The free rebuild

Is the rebuild really free?

Yes. We rebuild your homepage from your own content and send it within 48 hours. There is no deposit and nothing to pay unless you decide to keep it.

How quickly can my website go live?

You see the rebuilt homepage within 48 hours. If you want the rest, most sites are live within 7 days of you approving it and supplying the remaining content.

What we build

What kind of websites do you build?

We specialise in professional brochure and lead-generation websites for UK service businesses. Ecommerce stores and custom web applications are outside this core offer.

What types of businesses do you work with?

Independent trades and service businesses: plumbers, electricians, decorators, cleaners, window cleaners, salons and other local firms that live on enquiries rather than online sales.

Do you build websites for businesses outside the UK?

Yes. We are a UK-based studio and also work with small businesses in Ireland, Spain, France, Portugal and Italy, with the site written in your market’s language.

Will my site show up when someone asks ChatGPT or Google's AI for a local trade?

We cannot promise placement in anyone's AI answer, and you should be wary of anyone who does. What we can do is make your site readable: every page carries LocalBusiness structured data with your services and the areas you cover, your FAQ is marked up so it can be quoted, and the site publishes an llms.txt summary and a robots.txt that names the AI crawlers and lets them in. That is what an assistant needs in order to describe your business correctly rather than guess.

Price and contract

How much does a professional website cost for a small business?

£49 a month, with no setup fee and nothing to pay up front. That one price covers the build, hosting, SSL, backups, security updates and uptime monitoring. There is no cheaper tier to be upsold out of and no more expensive one to be pushed towards.

Am I tied into a contract?

No. £49 a month, cancel any time, with no minimum term and no exit fee. If you leave, the domain, site, content and reviews go with you, because they were yours from day one. Content changes are quoted separately.

Domain and DNS

Do I own my website and domain?

Yes. You own the domain, the site, the content and the reviews from day one. If you ever leave, it all goes with you.

What happens to my domain and the DNS?

We handle it, and the domain stays registered in your name. Your current website keeps running the whole time we are building: the new site goes onto our hosting first and we check it is answering properly before anything points at it. Only then do we switch your domain over, so there is never a day when your site is down.

Switching from a directory or a builder

I’m on Checkatrade. Do I still need a website?

Yes, and most members already have one, because the homeowner who finds you on a directory looks you up on Google next. A site you own also catches the customers who never open a directory. Keep the membership while the site ramps up, compare the cost per won job on both, and cut the loser.

I built my site on Wix or GoDaddy. Why change?

Because you are its administrator, and nobody is paying you for that. The renewals, the updates, the padlock, the form that stopped delivering: all yours, at 11pm. We take the whole job off you, and the rebuild looks like your business rather than the page you started from. Send us the address and judge it beside your own.

I already pay Yell or someone else for my website.

Then the question is what you own when that contract ends. With us the domain is registered in your name from day one, the whole site exports in one click, and there is no minimum term. If you are inside a contract, we build the new site now and it goes live the week the term ends, so you never pay twice and never have a day without a site.

What happens to my reviews if I leave a directory?

They stay on the directory, which is why we start before anything lapses. We run a review campaign to your past customers so the good ones land on your own Google Business Profile, where every customer looks and where nobody can take them from you.
